21 February 2006 Dear Professor Butterworth, The New Year is upon us, and the International Council for Scientific and Technical Information (ICSTI) is preparing to continue its service to the scientific, technical and medical information (STI) communities. The continued growth of electronic publishing in all its various forms highlights the value ICSTI brings to its members. The enclosed ICSTI Report provides an overview of ICSTI’s activities in the past few years. We also enclosed your invoice for ICSTI 2006 membership dues, along with payment details. We appreciate prompt attention to payment so ICSTI can support its planned activities in a timely fashion. In the coming year, ICSTI will continue to focus on its fundamental goals:
The STI industry continues to change rapidly. Repositories are growing in size and number, helping the digitization process. Past and present content are being digitized, with the goal of preserving access to the information for all users. ICSTI is the unique international organization that brings together the entire STI community as it responds to this changing environment. In 2006, ICSTI is holding two important meetings that allow ICSTI members to learn first hand about the opportunities and challenges for the STI community in our electronic future.
We value your membership and look forward to seeing you at our Annual General Assembly and Public Conference in Washington, D.C. The theme of the Public Conference is “New Information Challenges, Opportunities and Partnerships in the Community of Science.” For more information and registration for this event, please see our website at www.icsti.org. The information will be posted during the first week of March, 2006.
